The Pennsylvania Food Merchants Association (PFMA), the statewide association representing the food industry, is pleased to announce the endorsement of State Representative Dwight Evans (D-Philadelphia) for U.S. Congress in the 2nd District.
“Dwight Evans has a strong record of supporting Pennsylvania’s food industry and championing issues to help improve neighborhoods,” said David McCorkle, PFMA president and CEO. “He worked tirelessly to get the Fresh Food Financing Initiative (FFFI) enacted and helped bring supermarkets to many underserved communities. The program now serves as a national model to bring healthy, affordable food to all Americans.”
Through Evans leadership, the Pennsylvania legislature allocated a $30 million grant to get the FFFI started in 2004. The Reinvestment Fund leveraged those funds to obtain $145 million in additional investment. Over a six-year period, the FFFI helped fund 88 projects bringing fresh, affordable foods and new jobs to underserved urban and rural areas in the Pennsylvania.
“Dwight Evans is a friend of Pennsylvania’s retail food industry,” McCorkle said. “PFMA is proud to support him in his campaign for Congress.”
